Pam Carr Mitchell, 72, of Winchester, Virginia, died Monday, December 5, 2016 in INOVA Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church, Virginia.

Mrs. Mitchell was born December 20, 1943 in Boston, Massachusetts, daughter of the late David Carr and Geraldine Romm Carr.

Mother, entrepreneur, volunteer.  She gave of her heart, brains and time.  Over her life she created communities. She stayed connected with wherever she lived, from where she grew up in Vermont, and then as an adult in Maplewood, NJ, Glenview, IL, Berryville, VA, and Winchester, VA.  She also developed a community in Cancun, Mexico, where she started vacationing 4-5 times a year after her husband, Terry, died almost 16 years ago.

Her sons, Stephen and David Blaiklock brought her joy. Nothing was more important to her, and her joy was increased when David found and married Sabrina.  She also loved and cared for John, her husband Terry’s son, from his first marriage, whose life is complicated from multiple disabilities. She brought him into her heart 16 years ago, two years before Terry died, when John was almost 30. As his guardian, she has been key to him getting the services needed to develop further than anyone thought possible, and has given him love and family!

Her entrepreneurial spirit started early—giving rise to a day care in her home in NJ, a mail a card business when living in Illinois, a catering business from her home in VA, and then finally, the one that really took was her business, Clarke County Billing & Collections.  And after she sold her business, she continued working part-time for the company.

She also made time to volunteer. This included political campaigns for the Democratic Party, serving on the board for the ARC, spending years and years with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, and served in the RMA Parents Association; and there were more.

A funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Friday, December 9, 2016 at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home Chapel, Berryville, with Cantor George Henschel officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 9:00 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to The League of Women Voters, www.lwv.org.
